St. Patrick's Day is my fav :) kind of

It's finally March. Mardi Gras is over and my room has been all packed up and decked out with our next big holiday, St. Patrick's Day.  I love St. Patrick's Day!  I guess I love parades because I also love Mardi Gras. The St. Patrick's Day parade is so much fun, so I'm really looking forward to it next weekend.

My students are loving our Leprechaun photo booth (pictures to come).

I was late but I finally finished our listening center for March.  This takes so much time but it's worth it! I love that my students are allowed choice in what they listen to and so much freedom at this center.

Be back soon with leprechaun photos!

Have a great Thursday night :)

Throw me somethin' mister

I LOVE Mardi Gras and I love that my school loves Mardi Gras.  The 2nd grade at my school always puts on a Mardi Gras parade for the whole school.  My firsties were bursting with excitement today to watch the older kids strut their stuff through the school.

They take big boxes and decorate them to be their float.  They throw toys and beads to all the kids.  The parade route is through our gym, cafeteria and all through the halls.  It was SO much fun! It's definitely something for all of the 1st graders to look forward to next year.

Today was another beautiful day of outside learning.  We grabbed our clipboards and headed outside to work on our shapes.  When we finished our workbook they grabbed some sidewalk chalk and practiced drawing their shapes.  They are still having a little trouble drawing hexagons and octagons.

It's almost Friday everyone!

Mardi Gras Mambo

Mardi Gras is in full swing here in Louisiana and our kids are lovin' it!  This week in ELA our skill is main idea and details in informational texts so I wrote up some Mardi Gras pocket books.  They have been busy highlighting those details and being awesome detectives.  Our school has a Mardi Gras Math Night and I wanted to put out some math work in the hallway.  This is what I came up with.

Today was a great day so we went outside to do our Science lesson.  We have been using a balance this week since our lessons have been on mass.  Today I let the kids make their own balances.  They LOVED it.  They measured everything they could once we got back inside.

In math we are in our Geometry unit.  Today we focused on parallel lines but when that was over I let the students make shapes on our Geoboards.  If you are short on cash, try these DIY Geoboards.  My students didn't mind at all.  Infact, they preferred the wooden ones over the plastic.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous work week!  I am pretty glad today is over.  Had a kid have diarrhea all over himself about 3 minutes after the bell rang first thing this am!!!! Yuck.

I survived 100 days in First Grade

And lived to tell about it :)

Today was our 100th Day! We had so much fun.  Our day kicked off at 9:00 by rotating classes.  We have 6 first grade classrooms and we rotated each class with 12 minutes spent in each class.  Each teacher did a different 100th day activity.  The kids loved it!

My activity was to use a bingo dabber and dab the numbers 1-100 inside the gumball machine.  Trick was that they had to go in order.  I played some fun music and they chewed bubble gum while they did it.  It was so much harder than I had thought.  No one was able to finish in 12 minutes. I think the worksheet came from www.makinglearningfun.com if you want to check it out.

A few of the 1st grade teachers decided we would dress up with our kids as 100 year old people.  The kids were adorable.

I had SO much planned and didn't get to do it all.  First year teacher problems; overplanning.

Have an awesome weekend!

All snowed in and nowhere to go

This is our 3rd snow day here in our parish.  There really isn't any snow just ice.  Louisiana is so not prepared for this kind of weather.  My hubby is a police officer and all he has worked for 3 days is wrecks.   People, stay home!

Anyway, all this time home and I've been working ahead on a few things.  I'm getting together my March iPad Listening Center and my March Poems and Songs.

February is all finished if you'd like to check it out.

Mardi Gras is such a big deal here so I'm working on a Mardi Gras unit.

Maybe with all these snow days I'll be able to finish.  Our 100th Day is tomorrow and I will be so sad if we don't have school!  I can't wait to see all my firsties as 100 year old people.  AND I'm pretty excited to be a granny myself.

First EVER January Currently :)

Starting my New Years off with the first of many blog posts.

Happy 2014 Ya'll!

My Christmas break has been so incredibly uneventful but spending all day with my 2 precious babies has been amazing.

I mean really, if you got to look at this all day would you ever complain?

No, I didn't think so.

Listening:  Seriously boys can turn anything into a sword, a gun, or a fight.

Loving:  I want to eat salad every night with that dressing.  Its amazing!

Thinking:  I thought I would be so smart and print/laminate all of my January centers before winter break.  Now its staring at me like "are you EVER going to do your job?".

Wanting:  I am trying to convince my hubby we need a part time maid but so far its not happening.

Needing:  stupid stupid lamination.  :(

Memory:  Atlas had chicken pox this Christmas so our memory is of oatmeal baths and Calamine lotion.

Have a great week!
